Story:
The movie starts with a hospital scene with a lady Kate being pregnant and having attended by the hospital nurses. During the labor, the doctors say that the child is dead while in the foetus. Depressed, the couples spend their time with their other 2 kids - son, Daniel and a daughter, Max. Kate asks her husband John if they can adopt a child and give it all the love that they would have given to their baby, if born. John agrees for that and they adopt Esther from a home.
The following scenes involving Esther and her activities show the depth of sound effect, the effort and skill of the sound engineer.
From the day Esther came into the house, things began to change. She hurts her school friends who bully with her, tries to hurt Max and Daniel. Once, she kills the sister from the orphanage, who comes to Kate's house to tell something about Esther. Suspense gets built up among the audience as to who Esther is really and why she is doing all this. She manipulates the situations so much that John claims for a divorce from Kate. John begins to think that Kate is depressed and thats why she is upset with Esther. But Max and Daniel know what Esther is up to but they were afraid to tell to Kate and John about her, as Esther threatened them. Finally when she almost kills Daniel, Kate shouts at Esther at the hospital and the doctors give a shot to her to calm down. She is also admitted in the hospital. John, max and esther spend the night in their home. John drinks to the maximum and suddenly sees Esther besides him in the couch trying to seduce him. He shouts at her that he cant do it. After this are the scenes towards climax and twists on why Esther does all these weird stuff and who she really is.
Its a worthy movie to be watched and so i am not exposing the climax and the twists in the movie.
A good level of acting from Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther, Vera Farmiga as Kate, Peter Sarsgaard as John, Jimmy Bennet as Daniel and Aryana Engineer as Max.
Alert!!! The movie is disturbing and few scenes are not suited for children under 16.
